Founded by two childhood friends with a vision to revive London’s gin-making heritage, Sipsmith was the first copper-pot distillery to open within the city limits in almost two centuries. The brand’s story, coupled with their passion for gin of uncompromising quality and character, has captured the imagination of gin aficionados all over the world and seen Sipsmith become a market leader in just a decade.
Sipsmith were inspired to create a Christmas gift set with a difference; six beautiful 5cl miniatures of Sipsmith’s quintessential London Dry Gin, designed to be hung from the Christmas tree like deliciously tempting baubles. The idea came from the company’s own Christmas tree the previous year, where staff had suspended miniatures from the branches using wire. But for the retail market, a safer and more aesthetically pleasing solution for hanging the bottles up was required – and that’s where Signet came in. The requirements were clear; the medium had to be strong enough to hold the weight of the filled bottles, it had to be luxurious to look at and suitable for branding, and most importantly, it had to be quick and easy to apply.
Sipsmith’s Louisa Barron worked with Lucy George from Signet on the development of this project. Lucy quickly identified ribbon as a potential solution to the problem.
Sipsmith were already purchasing ribbon for gift wrapping from Signet, created in the brand’s signature dark green colour with luxurious copper foiling. For the hanging bottles, we suggested an identical design in a much narrower ribbon, pre-cut and tied in loops for simple application. Pleased with the concept, Louisa agreed to progress to the sampling stage which she described as “an added bonus, especially as we were purchasing such large quantities”.
The ribbon loops proved to be the ideal solution for Sipsmith. Said Louisa: “We are very happy with the solution and with the quality of the ribbon loops. We did go out to other suppliers but chose yours based on the aesthetic look and the quality. The design incorporates copper foiling which some people struggle with but yours is brilliant. The investment in your product was definitely worthwhile and due to the larger quantities, we were offered a much lower unit cost, which really helped us. The fact that you were cutting and knotting it as an extra service not included in the price was a real plus point. They can be sent to be boxed up straightaway so there are significant time savings. The aesthetics were also very important on this pack as this was a festive Christmas gift and we’ve achieved this too.”
Overall, Sipsmith were delighted with the outcome and the level of service they received.
“Lucy was extremely efficient, she constantly kept me in the loop and kept the project moving forward. I had complete confidence in her. We have been working with Signet for a while and you always provide high quality service, you’re very proactive at finding the solution and getting the job done, and we find you constantly under promise and over deliver. Our other suppliers are just not like that!” Louisa added.
