The Chinese Lunar New Year in 2025 marks the start of the Year of the Wood Snake, a time of transformation, wisdom and personal growth. According to Chinese astrology, the snake symbolises intelligence, mystery and renewal.
Honouring the occasion, prominent Scotch whisky distillery The GlenAllachie wanted to release a limited edition single malt for the Asian market: an 11-year-old Pedro Ximénez, Oloroso & Virgin Oak Cask Finish.
The team had a clear vision for what they wanted to achieve for this landmark, first-of-its-kind release. It would feature a fully bespoke carton with eye-catching, hand-drawn illustration with gold foil and embossed detail.
The bottle itself, in line with the core collection, would be ordained with a collectable 3D gold-coloured snake charm that would consistently sit around the neck of the bottle.
The charm needed to meet several key criteria: it had to arrive fully assembled for seamless application, travel securely without damaging the glass, and showcase the intricate scale patterns of the snake in stunning detail.
The GlenAllachie team explored a range of options to perfect their brief—from the way the snake and cord intertwined to the shape of the snake’s eyes.
Working with a strict budget, we created a matte gold sculpted metal charm assembled with a minimalistic cotton cord – purposefully designed not detract from the key focal point that is the pendant.
Each with The GlenAllachie monogram debossed into the reverse of the charm connecting the keepsake with the brand and developing stronger community connection and belonging.
Supplied pre-assembled, the team were also able to easy apply the charm on the line.
The limited edition release was distributed to specialist retailers across countries in the Far East and South East Asia.
