First blended in the tiny basement of their store in Aberdeen, and now a global corporation, Chivas Brothers is regarded as the ‘King of Whiskies’ and therefore it seems only fitting that it should be paired with polo, the ‘sport of kings’. As the only sponsor of British Polo Day, their Royal Salute brand is an icon representative of the core values shared in both sport and distilling – honour, skill, integrity and respect.
As the only sponsor of British Polo Day, Royal Salute creates a limited edition gift bottling for its corporate customers at each of the seven annual international meets. For the 10th anniversary of the first ever event to be held in Dubai, the company wanted to create an extra special bottle and they looked to Signet for help. On an extremely tight timescale, we were asked to design and produce something that would fit with the overall aesthetic of this luxury brand whilst giving a collector’s feel to this commemorative bottle of whisky.
Royal Salute approached us on recommendation from their Scottish marketing team and were clear from the outset that time was extremely tight on this project due to the production deadlines for their handmade porcelain whisky flagons. Signet accepted the challenge immediately, and based on mutual understanding with the client we agreed to skip the prototyping phase and move straight to bulk manufacturing. Signet produced a chunky die cast cartouche featuring the Chivas logo and details about the anniversary. The size of the piece was carefully considered to ensure it would fit snugly on the bottle shoulder, and the cartouche was finished in gold to tie in with the existing bottle stopper, with an exact match achieved.
This was undoubtedly a demanding project that required precise management and confident decision-making from Signet in terms of guiding the client towards their goal. We turned this job around in just three weeks from the initial enquiry, which was impressive even by our own standards! Our detailed knowledge about the products and processes involved meant we were able to quickly identify a solution and anticipate any design concerns before they arose, which enabled the fast completion of the order. The coin itself looks absolutely stunning on the Royal Salute bottle and the company has received feedback from clients stating that they will be delighted to keep it as a collector’s piece for years to come. As a result, Signet was asked to complete a similar item for the New York event this summer and looks forward to working with Chivas Brothers on other projects in the future.
Amabile Guglielmino of Chivas Brothers commented: “The investment in the product was really worthwhile; it was personalised and fitted very well with the brand’s luxury look and feel. Customer feedback was very positive – said they will never forget the event with the bottle and they’ll always keep it. It made the pack complete. We look forward working with you in the future and grow our partnership – given this outcome, we’re excited to see what you can create when time is not so scarce!”
Never under-estimate the impact of finish elements like a seal. It’s not always about print or labelling!
