THE BACKGROUND

Launched in early 2018, Woodhill Gin is a Danish gin brand produced in close collaboration with the world famous Thames Distillery. Entrepreneur Jeppe Skovbakke Juhl’s vision was to create a new interpretation of the classic London Dry Gin in which traditional and down-to-earth meets exotic and exclusive in a unique and harmonic interplay. The botanical flavours of Woodhill Gin are inspired by the so-called ‘Danish Riviera’ from whence it comes; the sea breeze, the woods and the feeling of tranquility are reflected using elements such as angelica root, pink peppercorn, asparagus and rosebud.

THE BRIEF

A startup entrepreneur, Jeppe contacted Signet on recommendation from a London-based PR agency, based on the UK’s reputation as a trailblazer in high-end consumer packaging. Woodhill Gin had not yet launched but Jeppe had a clear vision of where he wanted to go with brand, creating a look and feel that would reflect his progressive attitude to gin distilling as well as the love and care that goes into producing every batch. Key to communicating the brand’s distinctive personality was the ability to convey Woodhill’s unique story to the consumer while also accessorizing the minimalist bottle in an equally contemporary style.
Said Jeppe: “It was our first product and we were a start-up company, and coming from Denmark we looked to the UK for the experience. I wanted an exclusive design to mirror my exclusive product and Signet understood that.”

THE SOLUTION

Keen to communicate the story behind the brand, Jeppe initially worked with Signet’s Lucy George on the development of a charm that would hang from the neck of the bottle and would showcase the booklet Jeppe had already created, detailing the ethos of Woodhill. The design evolved to include a waxed cotton cord for hanging, and finally a custom, die-cast charm featuring the brand’s distinctive logo. The addition of the metal charm simplifies the way the cord is knotted and helps the hangtag to lie flat, as well as bringing a truly deluxe feel to the whole ensemble.
“I was comfortable from the very beginning,” Jeppe said. “Lucy has been absolutely fantastic, she knew what I was after and guided me in the right direction. She and I together found the best solution and the communication was excellent throughout the whole process. The support you have given me is fantastic – your sharing of knowledge – I have gained a lot from your experience by just talking with Lucy. You have really helped me understand the industry.”

THE RESULT

Signet worked closely with Woodhill Gin to ensure the completion and delivery of the hangtags, cords and charms ready for the brand’s scheduled launch, with a total of 4,000 bottles in the first run. The response has been incredible, with excellent feedback from both retailers and consumers on the quality, flavour and visual appeal of the gin. Signet was delighted to receive an order for Woodhill’s second run, which almost doubled to 7,000 units, and continue to work with Jeppe on current and future orders.
