Lot 40 is a small-batch Canadian rye whisky renowned for its high quality and earthy, classic rye spice notes. This rare cask strength version, aged for 12 years, was released as part of the Northern Border Collection and the company wanted to create a memorable look and feel for the bottle, which is also printed with the ‘story’ of how the product is made. Working very closely with the client, Signet undertook an extensive sampling process to achieve exactly what they wanted – a flexible copper label, applied asymmetrically across the bottle. We sourced an entirely new supplier for this product, which enabled us to produce the label in real copper, embossed with the brand name and some brief details as well as having space for the application of a limited edition sticker.
Returning to the old roots of their Tennessee brand, Jack Daniels chose a classic embossed glass bottle with a simple paper label as a vintage style vessel to reflect the quality of their barrel aged, rested rye whisky. All that was needed was an extra little detail – and Signet came up with the goods by producing a cowboy-style bolero necktie for the bottle, fastened with a small, die cast charm emblazoned with the distillery’s famous designated credentials.
As a leading supplier of real wood flooring in the UK, Havwoods wanted a way to label their display products and customer samples that would convey the company’s commitment to quality and reputation for excellence. While many companies opt for a self-adhesive label, Signet worked with Havwoods to develop a signature die-cast coin, featuring the company logo and inset into the wood. The result is a unique and very premium look that is also extremely hardwearing in the showroom.
Croatian winery Ernest Tolj adopted a ‘less is more’ approach to developing a distinctive visual identity for their premium range of wines. The sleek, clean lines of the black glass bottle are emphasised by the lack of a front label, with the brand instead opting for a combination of an intricate neck wrap inspired by the winery’s ancient window grilles, and a premium hangtag in heavy stock, printed and foil embossed for a beautifully tactile and refined yet rustic look. The tag was suspended from the bottle neck using loops of waxed cord and the whole look was finished off to perfection with a Marque aluminium label, embossed with the brand logo and applied to the top of the cap. The label on the reverse of the bottle was equipped with a dry tab enabling easy removal before the bottle is brought to the table. The bottle was is wrapped in tissue paper made from tea paper to increase the gift element and protect the bottle. Signet’s work was instrumental in the brand’s achievement of a Red Dot Design Award for this packaging.
Blending the rugged charm of Speyside with the urban sophistication of modern Scotland, Caorunn’s artisan gin expertly infuses five locally foraged gin botanicals which are represented in their branding with a stylized, five pointed star logo. Previously screen printed on their bottles, Caorunn wanted to make this logo really stand out and they approached Signet for help. Our Coronam product was actually developed in response to this brief; we experimented with sandwiching and heat fusing a number of substrates together to create a three dimensional piece with the tactile appeal of die cast metal or plastic, but with all the lightweight, flexible benefits of a sticker. Robust and vibrant, the finished piece was perfectly colour matched to Caorunn’s signature red and copes effortlessly with the complex curve on their contemporary bottle’s shoulder.
Produced by England’s foremost gin distillery, G&J Distillers, Berkeley Square Gin stands proudly alongside the world’s most prestigious spirits. Smooth and refined, it’s often referred to as the single malt of gins – and the grand doorways of its native Mayfair are the inspiration for its iconic door knocker emblem. For a relaunch of the gin’s packaging, Signet was proud to help Berkeley Square develop a series of embellishments that would reflect the prestige and refinement of the gin. We created a stunning embossed metal neck collar to further enhance the decanter-style bottle, and produced a beautiful die-cast badge in the shape of the brand’s lion door knocker logo. This was manufactured in two pieces before being riveted together, and fits perfectly into the custom recess on the bottle, with the ring being free to move just like the real thing. Finally, we designed and produced a simple yet stunning Marque Aluminium Label to adorn the front of the bottle, featuring a mix of printing and embossing techniques for a truly deluxe appearance.
The Macallan’s Easter Elchies Cask Selection is an annual, limited edition release which pays tribute to Easter Elchies House, an ancient manor which sits in the heart of The Macallan Estate. Signet was tasked with recreating an old Macallan tradition in which each bottle of whisky would be wrapped in a red or green grosgrain ribbon, sealed with a wax stamp. We printed a bespoke, self-adhesive ribbon using gold foil to denote the Easter Elchies variant, and used real wax to produce custom seals for hand application to the ribbons. These embellishments were applied to both the bottles and the boxes for this deluxe whisky offering.
In a limited edition Father’s Day collaboration with department store Selfridge’s whisky brand Haig Club developed an innovative metallic foil gift bag containing a 70cl bottle of whisky and adorned with a detachable metal keepsake tag, which could be personalized in store. Signet was tasked with the creation of the tags, which were laser etched with Haig Club branding on one side and ready to be engraved with a message of the customer’s choice on the other. The tags were attached to the eyelet on the bags with a ball chain also supplied by Signet.
A truly special product, Sandeman’s Old Tawny is the result of 30 years’ careful ageing in wooden casks, with gradual exposure to air which concentrates the flavours and matures the ruby colours to amber, creating this rare and delicious port. Having chosen a simple bottle and label to evoke the years of work that go into making each bottle, Sandeman wanted a final flourish that would underscore the provenance of this special edition. Signet created a beautiful faux wax seal with a ragged edge giving the appearance of real wax and a handmade finish in a product with the flexibility to adhere to the bottle’s natural curve and the robustness required to perform in a retail environment.
A single estate spiced rum produced on the island of Mauritius and named after the rare and beautiful native bird of the same name, Pink Pigeon rum’s heritage stretches back for centuries. Distilled from locally-made sugarcane molasses, the dark and delicious nature is captured in the authentic, vintage-style black bottle with its white printed finish. The company wanted to bring a splash of colour and texture to the bottle and Signet did this by creating a pink silicone neck collar that fuses classic with contemporary and features the brand’s inspirational slogan. Injection moulded in the round, the collar simply passes over the bottle neck and has just enough stretch to hold it in place without the need for adhesive.
First launched in 1909, Old Parr is an iconic blended Scotch whisky with a distinctive bottle shaped like an old time flagon and made from crackled glass. The brand’s longevity is key to the overall identity and when it came to creating a bottle embellishment and security seal it was key that the design should reflect this. During the brainstorming process it was clear that only a genuine wax seal would deliver the authentic experience demanded by this heritage brand and so we created a beautiful seal with a charming handcrafted look, featuring the image of the whisky’s famous namesake, Thomas Parr. The seal was bonded onto a red satin ribbon that combines with a shrink wrapped neck capsule to create a tamper-evident closure.
Founded in 1973, the Montrose Scotch Whisky Company produced quintessentially Scottish blends including Pipe Major and Old Montrose. The company commissioned a faux wax ‘seal of quality’ to breathe new life into the existing bottle design for the latter; Signet created an intricate decoration featuring the brand logo and a distinctive ribbed background. The seal was curved to perfectly fit on the shoulder of the bottle and injection moulded onto a self-adhesive grosgrain ribbon enabling it to be mounted under the neck capsule to create a beautiful security seal.
An iconic Scottish Single Malt, Signet was honoured to be selected by The Macallan to create a charm for its famous 1851 Inspiration whisky, which is inspired by centuries-old whisky samples. These whisky heavyweights deserved a similarly weighty embellishment and Signet was tasked to create a chunky charm to be affixed to the bottle neck. We created a distinctive brass embossed emblem suspended from a golden ribbon and combined with hand-dipped bottle sealing wax to create a stunning, tamper-proof finish.
Named after a famously dark and peaty loch overlooked by the distillery, Kilchoman Loch Gorm is a sherry cask single malt matured exclusively in oloroso casks. To emphasise the unique character of the whisky, Kilchoman wanted a variation on their existing cartouche from Signet, which already featured the brand’s distinctive logo. We adapted the design by creating a new die with new text, and added black enamel into the relief for a really striking contrast with the golden cartouche.
The only working distillery on an island that was once home to many of Western Scotland illicit stills, the Isle of Arran Distillery has a rich history and a worldwide reputation that attracts thousands of visitors each year. The company was already sourcing merchandise from elsewhere but approached Signet looking for a better quality product, made in the UK. We used the distillery’s existing branding to develop the design for a die cast keyring and matching pin badge, produced in zinc, then bronze plated and selectively antiqued for a wonderfully warm result that reflects the heritage of the brand.
A new generation of Scotch whisky inspired by all the glamour of the 1920s, House of Hazelwood’s distinctive Art Deco bottle design already makes the product stand out on shelf. However, the brand sought a way to mark out its 25-year aged single malt from the rest of the range, and approached Signet for help with a solution that would look great and be easy to apply at the bottling phase. We produced a small but perfectly formed metal charm, die cast in two parts and then fused onto a loop of twisted rayon cord colour matched to the label. The back of the charm also has a self-adhesive pad so once looped around the bottle neck, it could be permanently affixed to the glass for a really elegant finish.
A global authority on single malts and one of Scotland’s oldest distilleries, the Gordon & Macphail pedigree is revered by whisky connoiseurs and this is reflected in every tiny detail of the company – right down to the deluxe closures on their presentation boxes. For this project, Signet created a beautiful die cast, two-part medallion finished in gold lacquer and then crimp sealed onto a grosgrain ribbon. The back of the piece was fitted with a magnetic closure to seal the box while highlighting the brand’s iconic ‘G&M’ logo.
Created in homage to the whisky traditions of the American deep south, when bourbon barrels were carried along the Mississippi river on paddle steamers towards the bustling port of New Orleans, Glenfiddich’s 19-year-old ‘Age of Discovery’ bottling is matured in oak bourbon casks for a distinct flavour. Presented in a stunning box telling the story of this American tradition, Glenfiddich wanted a final flourish for the vintage-style bottle that would reflect the whisky’s journey and the transatlantic character of this unique bottling. Signet created a beautiful injection moulded cartouche, designed to fit precisely in a location space on the bottle, and intricately detailed with a compass motif to hint at this stunning product’s intrepid adventures.
